Detained women play themselves -
theatre project in the women's prison Berlin-Lichtenberg
The women have been sentenced for theft, drug
abuse and murder; some for a few months others
for up to 15 years. Participating in the play
enabled the women to escape their hermetic and
monotonous daily prison routine for a few months,
creating a new life on stage.
A professional theatre team helped the women to
act in the play "Law and Desire" which
is based on their life histories. For one night,
the women even experienced a taste of freedom
as they performed on the stage of the prestigious
theatre Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz,
where the play was highly acclaimed by the public.
