Schwitters - Merz Legacy
The Merzbau by the famous German Dada artist Kurt Schwitters, who fled Nazi Germany and made his home in the Cumbrian hills of the Lake District in England, is under threat and may be sold to property developers from China.
Schwitters used the small stone barn as a studio in the 1940s and turned it into a pioneering piece of experimental Dada modernist art. He covered the walls in a collage of materials, from glass to found objects and sculptures.
