TLV – Central Bus Station
The Tel Aviv Central Bus Station was once the largest bus station in the world, a seven floorscolossus of brutalist architecture. It is commonly referred to as “the monstrosity” or “the white elephant”.
Opened in 1993 after 24 years of construction, it was deliberately designed as a confusing, labyrinth-like building that included a shopping mall with more than 1,000 shops and restaurants. After a closure order was issued in 2021 many of its store fronts are now shuttered, and the labyrinth of passageways appears deserted. The “City Under One Roof” will disappear at some point in the future, but its demolition may be delayed for some time.
