Galapagos
Life and Death
The Galapagos Islands with their unique natural biodiversity inspire everybody to think differently about the world. They remind visitors of paradise, a place where animals, plants and humans live together in harmony and are not afraid of each other in any way.
But accompanying what at first glance presents itself as harmony in paradise are death and decay. Not often coming to the fore in representations of the ideal the Galapagos present, everywhere on the archipelago one can find the remains of birds, iguanas, crabs, seals and other species in various stages of decay. Those remains act as a constant reminder of the fact that death is an existential part of nature.
